In these days of multiple media outlets and video interviewing it is hard to believe that this mess has occurred. Assassin's
Creed for the XBOX 360 and the PS3 is coming out this fall and recently at Ubisoft's Ubidays Jade Raymond gave multiple interviews
with different questions and the more she talked the more information was given out. But it took me quite a while to compile
all this information into an article. Considering some of the lackluster reporting on this I felt the need to write this
article. But first the new trailer for the game.
I know that Jade is beautiful but perhaps these reporters should have kept their minds on their work rather than her because
she was obviously leading these interviews considering how all over the place they are but still on PR point.
They are keeping the majority of the game under-wraps but what they are showing is how big the environments have become and
a new feature called leap of faith. Which is basically an escape mechanic that allows you to drop into a bale of hay so that
the guards can't find you or track you. The developers want the emphasis on escape but also on being able to carry out your
missions however you want to. Trying to prevent the game from being labeled a straight stealth game like Thief. They have
been concentrating on getting the game to run perfectly across XBOX 360, PS3, and PC. There aren't supposed to be any differences
from one platform to another.
The game has been through the historical ringer and has had many experts in the field of history they are dealing
with what is right and what is wrong historically. The experts were from both the European and Middle Eastern perspectives.
Their team is very dedicated to getting the historical stuff right. Three huge cities, 15 times the size of the original
demo city. Lots of areas during travel to do side missions and exploration. All the areas are very exploration heavy and
the player has a lot freedom to go anywhere. There are two parts to every mission: investigation: eavesdropping/pickpocketing
and assassination. But then you are going to have to escape. Fights will be realistic but they will also have flashy moves
and counters that make the fights exciting. You need to manage timing and position to be successful. Enemies will be tough
being able to do everything in some cases you can do except for wall scaling.
Controls were discussed but this wasn't new information. Right button for right arm left for left arm bottom
for legs and then up button for hands with weapon. Right trigger makes the assassin sprint. The logo with the assassin's
blade and feather is explained as the both being signatures of the assassins. The the leader of the assassin's assigns you
a mission with the feather and then when the mission is completed you dip the feather into the victims blood as a mark that
the mission has been completed. Jade did say it's not time travel, so rumor mongers don't continue that. She does talk a
lot about franchise and how this isn't just one game. She did mention that the next game may not be about Altair so the sky's
the limit. They want this game to be the first true new Next Generation Franchise. No multiplayer in this game.
This was just a tease and the majority of the information will come out during E3 this year when they are going
to have another guided walk through. Jade did say the game is coming out 2007 but nothing specific, rumor is October but
considering their it will be done when it's done attitude it probably could be as late as holiday.
Thank you to 1UP.com, IGN, Gametrailers.com, and Gamespot for all their wonderful video interviews and thank you to Gamevideos.com
for their trailer.
